I’m Simon Lamprecht, the owner-operator of BillyGoat Mulching. We help property owners and contractors across Casar and the surrounding Western North Carolina area clear land the clean, efficient way. Using forestry mulching and advanced subsoil mulching to create a seed-ready or build-ready finish without burn piles or heavy ground disturbance.
My Story
I’m originally from Southern California and a first-generation American from a Swiss family. I was raised outdoors, more time in the woods than in front of a TV. By the time I was 12, I was already clearing brush and cutting trees with hand tools and chainsaws.
After 15 years in automotive and heavy equipment repair, I knew I wanted a change, something hands-on, outdoors, and built around doing work the right way. When my family and I moved to North Carolina and eventually settled in Casar, we bought a 20-acre property. That’s when I learned how quickly vegetation can reclaim “cleared” land—and how much work it takes to keep field edges, fence lines, and wooded borders from pushing back in.
Why we added subsoil mulching
Forestry mulching is an excellent way to clear above-ground vegetation, but I always explained the limitation: roots and stumps are still there, even when the surface looks clean.
I wanted to offer something better, something that could fully clear land without the downsides of traditional clearing (piles, burning, hauling, and heavy soil disruption). That search led me to subsoil mulching, a method used overseas that removes vegetation including roots and stumps, while still recycling organic material back into the soil.
After years of research and conversations with companies using the method, we acquired equipment that can handle standing trees, brush, stumps, and root systems, so customers who want a true “clean slate” can get it with a more sustainable approach.

How BillyGoat Mulching started
With my equipment background, I rented a forestry mulcher thinking I would handle my own property maintenance in a day. It was slow at first, but once I found the rhythm, everything clicked. What started as field-edge clearing turned into selective thinning, view improvement, and reclaiming usable ground.
I enjoyed it, I was good at it, and I saw a real need for it in our area. After careful planning and saving, I bought my first machine and attachment and started BillyGoat Mulching as a side business. Putting in the hours to learn the equipment and dial in my process before I ever worked on a customer’s property. I wanted every client to feel confident that the job would be done safely, cleanly, and professionally.
Today, with four sons and countless completed projects, we’re still a family-run, owner-operated company. Meaning you deal directly with the person doing the work.
Today, BillyGoat Mulching is proud to be one of the first companies in the United States to offer subsoil mulching, and the first to bring subsoil mulching to North Carolina.

The result: land that’s ready to use
Subsoil mulching can leave land clear, conditioned, and fertile, often seed-ready or build-ready in 1–2 passes, without stripping topsoil or creating burn piles. Whether your goal is a future homesite, pasture, yard, food plot, or a “park-like” wooded area, my focus is the same:
- Clear it efficiently
- Leave it usable and stable
- Protect the soil and long-term land health
