Food Plots and Shooting Lanes

We know that there are more and more hunters joining most areas every year. This means more and more pressure on the wildlife. If you live in a rural area like we do, and you hunt, you know that everyone around you either has food plots or baiting areas. As lots get sold and property lines divide, this means more and more places for the deer to bed and eat. So, what makes your corn pile or food plot any better than the one a couple lots over? The main thing you need to think about when picking a sight for your next food plot is the location and what natural amenities are around you that you can use to your advantage. Is there water? What is the wildlife in your area lacking? Are they hungry or are they looking for more minerals? If you are a new hunter or just been down on your luck the last few seasons feel free to give us a call and we can schedule a wildlife management consultation. We will come out and take a look at what you are working with and see if there is any room for improvement. Even though wildlife can travel 100s of acres in a pretty short period of time if they find something they like they tend to stay close by. Even if you only have 5 acres to work with if you have water, food, and a safe area to bed down you can hold the wildlife’s attention. It’s not always the size of the area that matters it’s what your area brings to the table.
