Old pasture land and agricultural properties around Forest City deserve more than a surface-level clearing — we go below the ground to get it right.
Forest City sits in the heart of Rutherford County, surrounded by a mix of old farmland, agricultural properties, and rural acreage that has seen a lot of changes over the decades. Pastures that were once maintained get let go. Old fields fill in with privet, mimosa, and volunteer trees. Agricultural land that used to be productive gets overgrown when the operation changes or ownership turns over.
Reclaiming that land is a common job in this part of Western NC, and it requires more than just running a forestry mulcher across the surface. If you don’t get the root systems out and the ground leveled properly, you’re back to where you started in a few years. BillyGoat’s subsoil mulching process was built for exactly this kind of job.
We grind the vegetation, stumps, and roots down six to ten inches into the soil, then level and compact the surface in the same pass. Old pasture ground that’s been taken over by brush comes out flat, firm, and ready to reseed or develop. One contractor, one visit, and a price that undercuts the traditional two-contractor approach by a significant margin.

HOW IT WORKS
Subsoil mulching starts with a carbide-toothed counter-rotating rotor that grinds through everything at the surface and several inches below it. The fixed blade inside the hood shaves the material fine and lets it fall into the soil rather than collecting above it.
After the grinding pass, the rotor reverses and goes to work leveling. Soil from high spots, old root crowns, mounded areas, uneven terrain, gets redistributed into the low spots. The roller that follows firms everything down into a consistent, compacted surface.
For old agricultural land in the Forest City area, this process is particularly effective. The organic matter that gets incorporated into the soil adds fertility and improves structure, which matters a lot if the goal is reseeding a pasture or putting the ground back into productive use.

THE BILLYGOAT DIFFERENCE. ONE CONTRACTOR, ONE VISIT
Reclaiming an old pasture or overgrown agricultural parcel typically means paying one contractor to clear, waiting for them to finish, then calling another to grade and level. BillyGoat eliminates that gap. The clearing and leveling happen in the same machine pass, which means less time waiting and less money spent on mobilization fees and labor from two separate crews.
COST COMPARISON: Traditional approach (forestry mulcher + grading contractor): $8,800–$12,500+ BillyGoat subsoil mulching (clearing + leveling + compaction): Starting at $4,500
WHAT YOU GET
- Overgrown pasture and agricultural land cleared of brush, stumps, and invasive vegetation
- Root systems ground to 6–10 inches below grade — dramatically reduced regrowth
- Flat, compacted surface ready for immediate reseeding or construction
- Organic matter incorporated into the soil to improve fertility and structure
- A finished result that looks and performs like reclaimed productive land

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We have old pasture land around Forest City that’s been taken over by brush. Can you restore it?
That’s one of the most common jobs we do. Old pasture reclamation in Rutherford County is a specialty. We clear the brush, grind the roots and stumps below the surface, level the terrain, and compact it — leaving you with seed-ready ground in one visit.
How much does it cost to reclaim an overgrown pasture?
Pricing depends on the size of the parcel, the density of the vegetation, and the terrain. Subsoil mulching starts at $4,500, which is typically well below what you’d pay for a separate clearing and grading job. We walk every property before quoting so there are no surprises.
After you clear and level, can we reseed right away?
Yes. The surface comes out seed-bed firm after our leveling pass — you can walk on it with a slight footprint. For pasture seeding, we can also handle soil testing and initial seeding on parcels up to two acres if you want a head start on getting grass established.
Do you work with farm and agricultural landowners?
Absolutely. Agricultural landowners are a big part of our customer base in the Forest City area. Whether it’s putting old fields back into production or clearing fence lines and field edges, we’re familiar with the specific challenges of farm property.
Whether you’ve got old pasture that’s been taken over by brush or rural land that needs to be cleared and leveled for a new use, BillyGoat Mulching can handle the whole job in one visit.
